__> beginners zone
Anna came up with Skate parks. We all liked that idea.

I never skate before. Maybe this is the perfect opportunity to try it.

I especially find the vibe around the skate park interesting which I would like to know more about.

Boijmans
We have decided to focus on one skate park. This is because all skate parks are very different from each other. One is busy, the other not at all. In addition, we want to focus on how the skaters interact with each other and with the skate park.

Westpark Blaak is a skate park where many people come and which is located in the center.

Interesting insights first observation.
__> Take a break in the main zone.
__> main zone
__> All starters where listening to music when I was there.
The big zone! The obstacles rise and the real work begins. This zone feels intimidating. How's my trick? Who is watching?
The one before me, what trick he did. How can I get someone's respect?

When you're upstairs, the tension rises. And when you're down, the trick is done, respect, and pride comes to the skater.
An open place, for open and new people.
A place to dare to fall, a place where you feel safe as a beginner.
There are no prying eyes

It is a bit more remote and everything is a bit further apart. Failure is an option here.

You see this back in the movements.
The moves and tricks are smaller. People help each other in this space. They are learning tricks to each other. And they are open for a small talk.
"It's about respect and freedom, there is no winning."

Westpark Blaak is a skate park where many people come and which is located in the center of Rotterdam.

There is a road around the skate park. So cars drive past the skaters. In addition, it is close to the center and a skate shop.
__> You have to wear protection, but nobody is doing that.

__> Skate shop 50 meters from skatepark
__> Claiming space

The red space is most used. This is also the most dangerous and the most intimidate space. This space is all about speed and intimidation.
Most intimidation
Continue with an other skatepark
I will continue with the concept of skate park. But I change the location. I want to look at a skate park that affects a different target group and why.
From now individually

go to their own space.
__>It's fine if you take pictures of them! They are actually really social, and proud.

GETTING RESPECT BY INTIMIDATION

This space is for technique. It's not that high and if skaters are tired they can sit on the egde.
It is a bit more remote and everything is a bit further apart. Failure is an option here.
It's not the middle, but if you go in there, you need speed and self confidence. It's a step closer to the bowl.
Intimidated in an other way.
8'o clock

Afraid to go into the Parc, but I have to see, what is happening in the evening?

Not that much, actually nothing, but still I was afraid. My heart was in my throat. All I could think about was, as long as I'm not taken along now.

But why?My heart was in my throat. All I could think about was, as long as I'm not taken along now.

But why? I was probably scared by the media at some point.
Kids from a year of 10 are coming and going. It's more the hangout place. The place that you kiss for the first time.
